Ingredients

• pineapple slices - 1 can (20 oz)
• brown sugar - ½ cup
• unsalted butter - ⅓ cup
• granulated sugar - 1 cup
• all-purpose flour - 1 ½ cups

• milk - ½ cup

Instructions

   Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

   In a small saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar together over low heat until combined.

   Pour the butter-sugar mixture into a 9-inch round cake pan, spreading it evenly over the bottom.

   Arrange the pineapple slices on top of the butter-sugar mixture, placing a cherry in the center of each slice if desired.

   In a large mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt.

   In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and vanilla extract.

   Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
