Ingredients

• Unsalted butter - 1 cup
• Granulated sugar - 1 cup
• Light corn syrup - 2 tablespoons
• Water - 2 tablespoons
• Salt - ¼ teaspoon
• Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
• Semi-sweet chocolate chips - 1 cup
• Chopped nuts (optional) - ½ cup

Instructions

   Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

   In a heavy saucepan, combine butter, sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt.

   Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer.

   Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.

   Pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, spreading evenly.

   Sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee and let them sit for a minute to melt.

   Spread the melted chocolate over the toffee and sprinkle with nuts if using.

   Allow the toffee to cool completely before breaking into pieces.
